Globba sherwoodiana ‘White Dragon’ was only published as a new species a few years ago. It has been in cultivation for many years and has gone under the names Globba winitii as well as the never officially published Globba magnifica. This beautiful pendant species is a common buhddist flower offering in Thailand and Myanmar. It was originally thought to be endemic to Myanmar but has been found in several wild locations in Thailand. It is an exceptional cut flower and beautiful shade plant as well as a good potted plant as well.
This species is the namesake of a book written about a Taxonomist’s trips to Myanmar. ‘The Weeping Goldsmith’ book was so named due to this species’ Myanmar name. It refers to the exceptional beauty of the bloom and how the Goldsmith weeps because he can not create something as beautiful.
Grows to 1-2 feet in shade, hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above.
