Currently available as dormant rhizomes, growing plants will be available in early summer
‘Siam Sparkling’ is part of a series of 12 or so ‘Tulip Gingers’. These are bred and owned by K.P. Holland. Although this is mostly a Curcuma alismatifolia line there are a few that are actually hybrids with other related species. This one in particular is a Curcuma alismatifolia X Curcuma rhabdota cross (presumed parentage). This cross has many different looks but I’ve found that the ones that have Curcuma rhabdota like foliage do exceptionally well in southern gardens. They tend to prefer more shade than typical Tulip Gingers and offer a different look as well. With anything called Tulip Ginger, the blooms are on long thin strong stems with the bloom boldly displayed above the foliage. They make great cut flowers, can be grown as pot plants, and also make excellent landscape plants both as individual clumps and in mass plantings.
Grows to 1.5 feet in medium sun, initial testing shows them to be hardy in Zone 8 and above.
