Curcuma petiolata is a beautiful and variable species of Curcuma. It comes in shades of pure white to dark purple, with pink being the most common coloring. The variety offered here is the pink type. The very large and showy inflorescence is its main attraction, though the foliage is very nice as well. It grows to 2 feet and prefers filtered shade to medium sun. It is hardy in USDA Zones 8-10. Please note this is the true species of Curcuma petiolata also grown by its synonym Curcuma cordata. The common “Hidden Ginger” of the southern US is often mislabeled under this name but is definitely not a true C. petiolata, and nowhere near as pretty as the real thing.
