Growing plants will be restocked in spring 2023
Alpinia formosana is one of the most cold hardy Alpinia species. Its foliage can withstand temp.s in the upper 20s without being frozen back. The leaves have many white pinstripes on them making it a very attractive foliage plant. In typical Alpinia fashion the leaves are large and waxy in appearance. In frost free areas this species blooms in spring. It can be overwintered in the greenhouse or protected from the cold on sub freezing nights in order to produce blooms. As a foliage plant alone it is valuable and will perform as a perennial in Zone 8 gardens.
Grows to 5′ in medium sun.
