Description

Kaempferia parviflora is a traditional Thai medicinal plant and known sold as a “male enhancement” and aphrodisiac as well. There are many leaf pattern variations in this species but the medicinal form is a larger green leaf variety with red undersides to the leaves. It is also unique in have “black rhizomes” which are in fact a very dark purple. Most wild collected cultivars have no coloration in the rhizomes. The flowers of this species appear in a cup like inflorescence and appear one or two at a time for several days.

Grows to 1 foot in shade, hardy in USDA Zones 8-10
