Kaempferia elegans like many Peacock Ginger species is known for being highly variable in the wild, sporting numerous leaf patterns. Some taxonomists had lumped this species into Kaempferia pulchra due to similar flower shape and color. This did not seem correct as the flowers have several major differences and many other characteristics are different as well. Genetica analysis has finally proven that these two are definitely distinct species and not even that closely related! This particular cultivar is well suited to pot culture but also likes a shady well drained garden spot.
Grows to 5″ in shade, hardy in USDA Zones 8-10
