I originally got this unknown beauty many years ago from Thailand in a box of mystery Thai Lucky Plants. This box contained several new introductions to the USA including Curcuma ‘Emperor,’ Kaempferia parviflora, the first Stahlianthus and more. While some of those original introductions weren’t so “lucky” this is one that has done exceptionally well for over 20 years. It is primarily a summer bloomer but once established it will occasionally send up spring blooms too. Interesting the form is different between the two. It is a reliable plant with reddish stems and large leaves. It is one of the branching rhizome types so give it some space to thrive.
Grows 3-4 feet in medium sun. Hardy in Zone 8 and above.
Many years after our introduction this plant species has recently been sold by others as Carmel Apple.
