We will have a good supply of growing plants in early summer.
Curcuma roscoeana was probably the first stunningly beautiful species to enter cultivation in the US. It was introduced decades ago yet remains a difficult species to find. This species is widespread throughout western provinces in Thailand and into Myanmar. It is easy to bloom even from its small rhizomes but it is one of the trickier species to grow for the fact that it can easily dry out too much during dormancy. The two approaches that seem to work best (for the dormant season) are to grow it in a raised bed with excellent drainage, winter rains are usually enough to keep moisture in soil but that excellent drainage prevents problems. The second option is for pot culture where one can either keep it growing into winter as long as possible giving it a shorter dormant period, or keeping the soil in the pot just slightly moist. This prevents both rot and excessive drying of the rhizomes. Its an awesome plant to have and hard to find but the information above is provided to help you enjoy it for years.
Grows to 2 feet in bright shade to medium sun.
