Growing plants will be restocked in spring 2023
This lovely upright blooming shell ginger has has large pink bracts and larger white and orange/yellow flowers. It is cold hardy in Zone 8 but will need to be kept up over winter in areas with freezes in order to bloom. It blooms quite easily with that protection. The dark green leaves are glossy and much thinner than its relative Alpinia zerumbet ‘Shell Ginger.’ Grows well in medium sun and gets to heights of 6 to 8 feet. When first introduced this was sold under the name Alpinia henryi, A henryi is now considered to be a synonym of the earlier published A. hainanensis.
