Calathea zebrina is one of the few reliably cold hardy species in this large genus of colorful foliage plants. Known as the Zebra Plant for its striped foliage. Unlike many species this one also makes an attractive purple inflorescence as an added bonus. It grows well in the shade garden and will be evergreen in areas without winter freezes. In Zones 8b and 9 it will die back to the ground with a freeze but will return in spring.
Grows 2-3 feet in shade, hardy zones 8 and higher
