To start, this is actually a variegated form of Kaempferia angustifolia but most people known it by its horticulture name of Kaempferia gilbertii. Each narrow leaf is edged with white stripes and makes a beautiful mass planting in the shade garden. Its small size also make it well suited to pot culture. As with most Peacock Gingers it prefers a well drained shady location. The foliage is the main draw but it late spring after foliage emerges it produces lovely orchid like white and purple flowers.
Grows to 5 inches tall in shade. Hardy in Zone 8 and above.
