Hedychium elatum is a new introduction and rarely seen in cultivation. It is believed to be of wild hybrid origin occuring in areas where both Hedychium coccineum and Hedychium stenopetalum occur. It is a very beautiful and deserving species that has both elegant foliage and a stunning floral display. This is one of the taller species growing to about 8′ (occasionally taller) and it is cold hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above. The flowers are a soft bicolor pink and typically several bracts will bloom en masse. This is a Gingerwood Nursery exclusive.
Grows 6′ – 8′ feet in medium sun, hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above.
