In the summer of 2015 I was lucky enough to see several new and exciting Curcuma hybrids on display at the Zingiberaceae conference in Chaingmai , Thailand. Many of these are now released in the Sawasdee and Chaidee hybrid series. Of all the ones on display, this one struck me the most! It is probably the tallest of the two series, but still a relatively short plant growing to about 2.5′ in height. The stems and plants in general are slender as is the inflorescence. This allows for a less crowded look and the beautiful inflorescences really show well. The majority of the bracts are a dark reddish brown and topped with white. This hybrid has a very long stem so should make for an awesome cut flower. Very excited to be able to offer this one!
Grows to 2.5′ in medium sun. Not tested yet but should be hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above.
