Curcuma hybrid ‘Emerald’ is a new one for us this year. Despite the name this is a white topped hybrid. Perhaps ‘Emeralds and Diamonds’ would have been a better name. Green and white is not a rare combination in Curcuma but too often it is only seen in the miniature species and larger varities of ‘Turmeric.’ This offers a new look that is so welcomed in the wide hybrids. ‘Tulip Ginger’ ease of blooming and compact size but with larger flowers and wider foliage. Due to issues related to Covid shutdowns only a very small amount of this new variety made it to the US, and Gingerwood got what little was available. This will be an exclusive for 2020.
Grows to 1-1.5 ‘ in medium sun. Hardiness not tested but should do fine in Zones 8 and above.
