What can you say, the guys n gals at the DoiTung breeding program just don’t like to give their Curcuma good cultivar names before releasing them! DT 585 was a winner but the lack of a name led to ChocoZebra, Zebra Chocotop, Chocolate, etc. etc. At least the DT hybrids are exceptional plants , so we can look past the boring names! Curcuma DT 602 is a taller Tulip Ginger hybrid who holds its large foliage a bit higher than typical Tulip Gingers. The inflorescence is held on very long sturdy stems making them a florist’s dream. Hybrids like this one are a welcome addition to the Tulip Ginger category as the bring all of the usual positives but add a fully colored bloom. Pure C. alimatifolia varieties just can’t let go of some of those green bracts.
Grows to 1.5 feet in medium to full sun. Hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above.
