Chaidee Orange was a limited release in 2018 and appears to be a “grex” of hybrids and not a single cultivar. All of the variations are beautiful and one can’t go wrong with any of them. The differences are in the shade of orange and the presence or lack of the red stripe on the leaf. We do find the release of a grex (seedlings from the same cross) to be an unusual situation. One can guess this is why the name is only a color and not the normal catchy cultivar name. This is a shame, this is the world’s first Curcuma roscoeana hybrid (many have tried unsuccessfully) and deserves a more appropriate name! The color and shape of Curcuma roscoeana is present in these hybrids but fortunately they are much easier to grow then their ..often difficult parent!
Grows to 1.5′ in medium sun. Not tested yet but should be hardy in USDA Zones 8 and above.
