Growing plants will be restocked in early summer 2023
Boesenbergia bella is a Gingerwood Nursery US exclusive. This amazing species was only just published in early 2020. In its habitat it can be found in solid green leaf, green and red stripe leaf, and silver and red striped leaf forms. I am propagating both the silver and red form as well as the green and red form. Although it was just recently described I have been slowly propagating these for the last three years. It is a deciduous species and can be stored dry indoors like most other deciduous gingers. It has not been tested in the ground over winter yet but should prove hardy in USDA Zone 8b and higher. The foliage alone is all one needs with this silver and red form but it also makes several cute flowers through out its blooming season. It only grows to above 10″ tall with a nice spreading foliage arrangement. An unusual feature of this species is its ability to make a few stem bulbils at the end of the blooming period. These are not so easily noticed as they are formed under the leaf sheaths. These bulbils can be harvested and planted the next season, just as one would do with Globba bulbils. Grows to 10″ in filtered shade, hardiness not tested.
