Boesenbergia
A relatively small genus of gingers that occur both as deciduous monsoonal climate plant as well as ultra tropical rainforest evergreens. While they are mostly unknown to the casual ginger grower there are a few noteworthy species that are both hardy in USDA Zone 8 as well as easy to grow. For those in warmer climates there are some exceptional species worthy of growing for their beautiful foliage. Boesenbergia often resemble Curcuma in foliage and are sometimes impossible to distinguish from them if not in bloom. Other species have more upright stemlike habits and look more like Globba species.
