Curcuma hybrid ‘Solo’ is also known as ‘Giant Ruby’ due to it looking like a giant ‘Siam Ruby.’ Curcuma sparganifolia ‘Siam Ruby’ is one of the parents of this great Tulip Ginger hybrid. The color patterns are very similar but ‘Solo’ is at least 3 times larger in bloom. Unlike the narrow foliage of ‘Siam Ruby,’ the leaves of ‘Solo’ are large and rounded. ‘Solo’ grows to 1 -1.5 feet with the bloom held above the leaves in typical Tulip Ginger fashion. This one is well suited in the full sun garden with other Tulip Gingers but will stand out with the unique size and shape of its foliage. In addition the bloom is more rounded and with coloring not typical in pure Curcuma alismatifolia varieties.
Grows 1-1.5 feet in medium to full sun, hardy in Zones 8 and above.
