Growing plants will be available in summer 2023
Costus scaber ‘Belize Yellow’ is an introduction of the late prolific ginger collector Mark Collins. Mark discovered this rare yellow cultivar of Costus scaber in Belize many years ago. This cultivar is as cold hardy as ‘Orange Indianhead’ and now is being recognized as a great “new” addition to this limited number of cold hardy Costus. Hybridizers have also begun using it to produce cold hardy hybrids. No yellow hybrids exist yet, but the time is coming soon. ‘Belize Yellow’ has a faint red color to the new leaves adding to its attraction. The flowers are orange which adds a nice contrast to the yellow inflorescence. Makes a great cut flower too.
Grows to 5’ in medium sun, cold hardy in USDA Zones 8 and higher.
