Costus pictus ‘Heiroglyphics’ – This cold hardy Spiral Ginger was the first of two cultivars of Costus pictus to be widely grown in the US. It has been grown under a few names early on but now ‘Heiroglyphics’ was become the most widely used. It is a very tall plant with narrow leaves and a red speckled stem. It can produces both basal and terminal inflorescences (leafless stems from the ground, and on top of regular stems). The large yellow and red flowers are born on a tight green cone. Grows from 6-8 feet in medium sun. Hardy in Zone 8 and above.
