Hedychium chrysoleucum. – ‘Yellow Spot’ This species of Butterfly Ginger has often been listed as a variety of Hedychium coronarium ‘White Butterfly Ginger.’ Most current work involving molecular and genetic research shows Hedychium chrysoleucum is distinct and show be elevated back to full species status. For the gardener, the similarities between the two are obvious. The differences in regards to looks are a longer cone and a pronounced yellow center on the flower in Hedychium chrysoleucum. I find it also usually grows a little taller then Hedychium coronarium. Growing conditions are the same and this is another very easy species to grow. Grows to 6 feet in medium sun. Hardy in Zone 8 and above.
